Certified Interpretive Host
Train-the-Trainers Workshop - Cancelled

May 8-9, 2014
Primošten, Croatia
Instructor: Emily Jacobs, NAI

In combination with the 2014 Interpret Europe Conference, NAI is offering a Certified Interpretive Host/CIH Train the Trainers workshop.  Participants will be able to learn and discover this recognized model of training combining informal interpretation and customer service that is well recognized in North America.  Ideal for any one who wants to learn about training staff or how to take those casual conversations with visitors to the next level.  During the offering, participants can also earn their NAI Certified Interpretive Host (CIH) credential, and those who are already NAI Certified Interpretive Trainers can become CIH Trainers.  A bit more about each program:

The CIH Program

The Certified Interpretive Host program is designed for new hires, seasonals, docents/volunteers, maintenance workers, receptionists, law enforcement or anyone who has public contact but does not deliver interpretive programs to the public. It covers the basics of interpretation, customer service and hospitality, and using informal interpretation to support the agency mission.

This 16-hour course includes:
  • History, definition, and principles of interpretation
  • How to provide great customer service
  • Hospitality and communication skills
  • A primer on informal interpretation
  • All course materials
  • NAI Certification requirements (open book exam; video exam)

CIH Train-the Trainer Workshop

This course (taught simultaneously with the CIH) is geared towards those who want to learn how to train staff in informal interpretation and customer service.  Though the official certification is open only to those who have completed their NAI CIT credential and are fully sanctioned as CIG instructors, others are welcome to attend the course to learn about the NAI model for training.  Additionally, if you are a current CIT with us, once you take the class, you can use NAI's curriculum and certify staff and volunteers at your own site as CIHs.

Venue and Lodging

The course will take place at the Hotel Zora in Primošten, Croatia. Participants have to make their own arrangements for accommodation and meals. For the course days we recommend half-pension in order to include the hotel's lunch service. (Those who stay for the conference do not need to book lunch during the conference).

Find out more about the hotel at Interpret Europe's conference webpages.
